Fresh Picked Thrifts, Episode 9

My revelation for this week of thrifting?
I'm gonna start buying with a love/hate attitude, meaning I'm gonna buy things I "love", as usual, but I'm also gonna buy at least one thing I "hate" (or as I tell my mini me "super dislike" because "hate" is not a good word- sorry can't help it I'm a mommy)

Thinking out of the box:

I buy things I "like" which makes sense right? Why would you buy something you didn't like/love? Well I have decided to try to buy one disliked item amongst all the "liked" items. Why, you say? What's the logic? Well I figure for my SHOP purposes this may open up an entirely different audience to my shop. Who says I have the best taste (besides me of course)?  It's going to give my shop more variety.

With that in mind, these are a few of my LIKES and SUPER LIKES...
The finale will be my SUPER DISLIKE thrifted item of the week.

Get ready, get a cup of tea....this is half of the MOTHER of all hauls.

SUPER LIKE-   I'm a nurse and these 1963-1965 hardcover books just made me giggle and then laugh out loud..."Nurses On Call for Trouble", "Olympic Duty", and "Danger Island"... so funny. I would look like such a goof in those hats.

LIKE-    Vintage Records 45's from the 60's... cute covers, need I say more, instant wall art.

SUPER LIKES-    Isn't this picture just eye candy?  PYREX and Fire King Jadeite holy kitchy kitchen. Ceramic Owl salt and pepper shakers, lucite flower napkin holder, giraffe swizzle sticks and an awesome white planter.  Here are a few close-ups...

Marked Art Nouveau by EDA Formann 1975
OOOH...

AHHH...

Yup there's more.

LIKE-    Don't know exactly what this little wooden guy is for but he was just too quirky to leave behind.

Don't Judge me-  yes there is more stuff...

SUPER LIKE-   Melted Plastic Popcorn decorations of the little drummer boy times two and 5 awesome gold glitter coated reindeer and sled.

LIKE-    Flower and leaf pins from Dubarry Fifth Avenue New York.

Ok ready for my SUPER DIS-LIKED item?

CLOWNS freak me out. They freak out a lot of people and I'm sure for different reasons. I am part of that generation of 30 something year old's who should never have watched Poltergeist. You know, the infamous clown scene... check it out here (WARNING don't let your kid see this)

This is what I thrifted - Brace yourselves

The creepiest thing is actually seeing this thing in action (the darn thing still works!) It's marked 1984. That's right 28 working years of horror. It takes 3 C batteries and .. it spins around with this heinous alarm sound and the kicker  is his head violently slams side to side with his evil green eyes lighting up.

Want to appreciate this more? I took the time to record it in action.

Bozo is being kept in my detached garage  (batteries removed)...this should give me enough time to get my shotgun if he tries to get me. Ya gotta admit he'd be great for creepy decor/haunted house.   He'll be up in my SHOP  sometime near Halloween, that is, if I don't have to blow him to smithereens between now and then- hahaha.

Come back next week I'll show ya the other half of this MOTHER of all hauls... yes this is only half.

I'll be linking this post up with Thrift Share Monday, Flea Market Finds, Would You Buy It Wednesday, Thrifty Love and High on Thrifting Thursday.

  3. Very smart to think outside the box when buying for resale. I am wish you on the clown - but if one were a clown collector this is an unusual item and will probably sell right away.

Thrifting vintage is like an addiction... you get one awesome find and later one find just isn't enough- just kidding, my goal is to get 150 items in my shop so I'm having to stock up! It's hard though to not want to keep some of it. By the way, Mom to 8 absolutely amazing!

  14. Holy crap it's eyes light up!
Deep breaths required here. I love your stuff. Where do you find it all? I am amazed. I actually added a clown to my inventory this week too, but mine's just a mid-century print, not nearly so scary. Must go find your follow button now - I have to know if that thing goes rogue on you!

    1. Thanks for stopping by and following my blog. The batch above is from a single estate sale except the crazy clown he was thrifted...so his origins are unknown- creepy isn't it?! Anyways I checked out your last post I LUV your booth- I only do the Etsy thing - called for booth prices in Chicago area and its so expensive.I've been getting quotes of 200-400 bucks/month plus a percentage of sales for 10x10 space. I'd have to mark up my stuff like 10 gazillion times to see any profit! Anyways have a great weekend.

  16. OMG... shows how bad my history is... I just looked it up Napoleon Bonaparte and Josephine de Beauharnais apparently had some love thing going- gonna read more about it. In the meantime... I thought the wood doll was in a bell boy suit-duh hahhaha. Thanks for the tip.
